Life’s clock has made me old and grey,

so I took it apart today.

Reversed the balance wheel and gears

that tic away the days and years.

I worked away and pretty quick

the clock began to say, “toc tic.”

Instead of old, I’d now grow young

and I was proud of what I’d done.

Then all at once it came to me…

Time gives us friends and family,

And when reversed, those I hold dear,

one by one will disappear.

In haste I grabbed my clock, and then

made it go “tic toc” again.

My heart was glad because it knew

My greatest joy in life is you.

And as I live each year of gold

I will treasure growing old.

Through life’s clock I’ve come to know;

The Greater the love…

The older we grow.
