We little knew the day that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again.
When I read this poem I break inside because this is exactly how our family feel about Pete a great son and wonderful brother
This is beautiful, and i will be so very happy to see u my one love when its time forGod to call me home. Your wife NJT. I love u .
This poem is exactly the way I feel about my son. All the family members feel the exactly the same way. Our chain will be put back together when God will call us home together again.
Everytime i read this i cry since my brother died the chain is brokken without him.nothing seems normal
Tammy,,
I know exactly how you feel. We lost my brother in March of this year and life seems no longer real. I miss him dearly daily and feel lost without knowing I can’t pick up the phone and chat. Now my chats are alone and I know he hears me. He has visited me via the most beautiful Cardinal bird you have ever seen.
I had selected this poem to read at my father’s funeral I was searching for something from my heart and this kept popping up a sign from from dad since then I have shared your poem with others who lost someone thank you for writing this beautiful poem that gives me and others comfort
Beautiful words & so true for many people x

This is such a wonderful comforting poem. Thankyou for writing it, it was read at my Grandmothers funeral and provided us with great comfort.
I have included this poem in my letters of sympathy to family and friends where appropriate and invariably I get a response on how meaningful it is and how it represents their situation and provides comfort
Dr. Gaither,
Thank you for your note. It is very touching when a doctor goes the extra mile for a family who is grieving. I hear from many doctors and nurses. You may want to consider my book, “One By One The Chain Will Link Again”. It has 96 heartfelt bereavement poems such as, “A Beautiful Day In Heaven” “I Live On”, and, “Heaven’s Light”. Many are specific to gender and circumstances.

This is so meaningful and true. I would like to find this on a frame for my wife that lost her husband in Afghanistan. Thank you for writing such a moving and touching poem.
My son passed away suddenly on October 13, 2016 early in the morning! This poem is so beautiful and captures my feelings exactly!
Thank you so much for writing it!!
When my son died, my aunt sent me a frame with your poem and a photo of Jacob. It hangs in my living roomy and I often take it down, read it, and hold him close in my heart. Thank you for these words.
Today was my first time reading this poem, I lost my son six years ago in an auto accident. Keep writing.
such a beautiful poem read recently at my cousins funeral who we had lost touch with and it was so moving broke my heart.
The broken chain poem speaks volumes to me. I lost my mum a year ago and this reminds me of her each and every time, it breaks my heart in pieces because the words are so true.
Wonderful poem, my grandma just died today and I hope I can read this at her funeral.
Yes, of course you can.
Thank you. For writing this beautiful poem. I lost my mother 4 days ago. Your words give me comfort that one day I will see her again.

G Pender
I’m not sure what you mean by, “The Cards”? What kind of cards”?
We read this at our aunts funeral just a month ago.
She didn’t have children of her own and raised my sister and I as her own during good and hard times.
She was the chain that held us all together and we have all been so lost without her.
When we had no words for the loss we felt and still feel this poem gave us a voice and moved so many.
She was so well known and so loved, we were approached after the funeral by her friend and neighbour who’s a very well known musician and advised he had never heard these words but he told us it moved him to tears when he has not cried in many years.
We all felt this was very apt to her memory and always will x

Today, at my Baba’s funeral, is the first time I have heard this poem. I have never heard words have such meaning and truth behind them. It was so comforting to hear today. Thank you for your beautiful words. You will never know how touching this was for me.
I was struggling with words to write on my dads obituary until a friend sent a snapshot of this beautiful poem. Thank you Mr. Ron Tranmer for sharing your gift of words with us.
A splendid poem that really touches the hearts of people, my brother died recently and I intend to read this at the Funeral, I hope I have your permission.
Sorry for the late response. Hope you read it and some found comfort in it.

I just lost my sister. She is one of a family of 8 siblings. I hope you don’t mind but I attached this poem to one of my photos. Our chain has been broken and we are so sad and your poem is so beautiful and appropriate.
I too just lost my sister. She was the oldest of 8 siblings and like a second mother.
I was lost for words but found broken chain quite by accident. This poem spoke more than a billion words I could have written.
Thank you for easing my pain through these wonderful words.
This is so reflect my feeling. My sister passed away recently and my cousin put this on FB for her.
Thank you so much Mr Trammer. I heard this poem at a recent memorial service. I will be reading it at another memorial on on Sunday for my dear friend Jan. She meant the world to me, and your poem expresses that. In the last stanza, I will (with apology to you) add “friendship” to the first line “Our family and friendship chain is broken…” I’ve lost four friends in the past three months. Your poem brings comfort. I’ve left a copy of it with my will, so that it may bring peace to my children also. Very much appreciated. God bless you!
Hello Ron,
I just lost my brother on April 26, 2018. He will be missed. I need to write a memory in the obituary part of the news paper. I love the last part of your poem:
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again.
I wanted to ask permission if I can use that last part for the memory?
It’s so hard to find words when a loved one has passed. I would like to say this poem when we scatter my wife’s ashes on the family farm.. It has brought comfort to me
I am requesting permission to read ” Broken Chain” poem at my mother’s funeral.
Thank You.
Newton Palmer.
You may. Thanks for asking.

Beautiful poem, I would like your permission to include it in a Christmas card, we lost our son this past year.
Thank you,
My cousin died suddenly and leaves behind 3 young children. I came across this poem and the words are so uplifting and encouraging. I would like your permission to include in a memorial tribute I am preparing for the family. Thank you for your consideration,
Yes, of course. Just keep my name as author with it.
I would like to ask permission to use Broken Chain in a pamphlet for my Dad’s memorial service. Would that be okay? Thank you for such a beautiful poem.
Yes Richard. You have my permission. Thank you for having the integrety to ask. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s tough losing a dad. I wrote a short little verse for my dads birthday card before he passed, and then read it at his service.
The single greatest compliment I have ever had,
Was when somebody told me, “You remind me of your dad.”
I would like to ask permission to use this verse for a memorial card. Thank you for your time.
Yes you may.
