Too Late
You walked slowly to my casket
and looked down with saddened eyes.
The words of love you whispered
really took me by surprise.
I didn’t know you felt about me
as you just implied.
How I wish I’d heard these words
long before I died.
I felt the same about you.
and my feelings went unsaid.
Now it’s too late for words of love,
for as you see…I’m dead
Authors Note:
It’s only natural, upon the passing of a friend or family member, to wish we would have shown them greater love. To have let them known how very much they meant to us, and to have spent more time with them.
This poem was written as a reminder to reach out to our family and friends with all the love we can
while we are both living. God can call any of us home unexpectedly at any time.
