He Doesn’t Know Her

 
He doesn’t know her anymore

but she knows who he is.

Her husband, and her sweetheart,

and father of their kids.

 
She made a vow some years ago

to him, and God above.

Through good and bad, happy or sad,

to honor and to love.

 
There is no greater test of love,

no greater lesson learned,

than from those who give such love

even though it’s not returned.

 
Even though Alzheimer’s

can take one’s mind away,

body and mind will be restored

on resurrection day.

 
Then what love and gratitude

that day will be expressed,

and she who gave such Christ-like love,

so richly will be blessed.

 
When in time their lives have ended

and they walk through heaven’s door

they will have a love that’s richer

than it ever was before.
